Prescription Drug Info

I have been very interested in pharmaceuticals for a while. Chalk it up to my nerdy chemist side, Plus the fact that I worked at a generic OTC Pharma company, along with my need for natural living, and a son with allergies to some meds already. Well then you have a slightly nerdy, natural living, hovering mommy. :-) Hey at least I claim it. Anyway, I thought this was a great compilation of data. There is some fascinating info about what type of information is misused, what they are called, ages, how people get around to acquire meds.

Travel and vacation

 I had been approached by a company that wanted to share some information and tips with my readers. I thought this one on travel and vacations was pretty timely.  I love the details and top 10 lists on it.One of my favorite places- Myrtle Beach was listed!  I am a fan of cruises and loved seeing how it has increased in popularity over time. What do you think? Is this similar to your vacation experience?

Dave Ramsey Sale

I am a big fan of Dave Ramsey. He gives smart no-nonsense information on finances, savings and more! It is practical and laid out for you very simply. I started out reading his book Total Money makeover! This book is a great start if you cannot afford to start with on of the Financial Peace University classes ($99), which we later did as well. The TMM book has forms in the back that you can copy and use to create you budgets and more. We got out of all debt except our 1 car and mortgage in 6 months. That was medical bills, credit cards, and our Line of Credit and vacation payments. It cleared up over $50,000 in debt and freed up $500 + a month in our budget and he pointed up towards having a savings account with $2000 in it. This worked out great because in the process of doing that I got downsized twice, and took a job making significantly less money. I am now in a lower stress job, closer to home, and though I am making less money I don't need to because of our lack of excess debt. Now when we either sell or pay off our Jeep Commander, it will be even better. We are currently leaning towards selling b/c we have 2 paid for cars with better gas mileage. He makes things seem so clear and simple. I Love it and am a HUGE Fan! Currently you can save on his website and get products for just $10. Go check it out. That splurge will save you $1000s  I promise! Read it, its an easy read, or listen to the audios/watch the videos. My DH couldn't understand until he watched the videos and he ended up fully on board. Dave taught us so much. I wish I had found him sooner, we would have done so many things differently. If you are single, planning to get married or buying a house- this is a Must read for you before it is too late.

** I don't get any cutback for this, I just feel very strongly about it!

Things I Love!

I am a Bloggie! Is that a real term? like you hear of Foodies, people that love food, cooking it, reading about it, eating it LOL. I am All about Blogs, reading other peoples blogs, writing my blog. So I figure it makes me a Bloggie. :-) If that term has not caught on yet, it should!

I read such interesting topics on savings. It is my hearts desire to stay home with my children, to craft with them. Sometimes I feel like my heart is meant to have lived back in simpler times. I like my clothes line though I am too busy to use it the way I want. I like making my own laundry detergent, dishwashing detergent, food from scratch- did you know how completely cheap and easy it is to make your own pancakes or pancake mix from scratch- instead of bisquick or other mixes?

Anyway, back to my topic, sorta. These are 2 topics on some of my favorite blogs that I felt needed to be shared here. Crystal and Heather have both shared a great deal of information on home life, savings, blogs and encouragement to me. I will include the articles below, and you can click on the title to take you directly to their blogs. Follow them. I am sure you will not be disappointed and you will feel inspired like I have.

Crystal at Money Saving Mom shares a guest post about an idea I LOVE. Who wants to do this with me?

Save Money and Have Fun By Starting a Frugal Club

Guest post by Jenny. In 2009 some friends and I found that we were like-minded and wanted to try new ways of saving money. We all especially enjoy using more natural products and thought we could make some of them inexpensively ourselves. So we started Frugal Club and have tried to meet most months and work on a variety of projects.
Recently one of our members was interviewed by our hometown magazine, Rochester Magazine. Now more people in our town have asked us about the club!

How to start your own Frugal Club:

*Find friends who are interested in a frugal lifestyle.
* Get together and talk about what everyone is already doing to save money.
* Brainstorm ideas of what you would like to do to save money/get ideas from Money Saving Mom.
* Have someone volunteer to lead or organize each project you decide to do.
* Have people bring what they already have for the project and divide the cost of what needs to be purchased.
* Get together and try some of the projects.
* Rotate homes for hosting and bringing treats.
* After finishing a project, evaluate if the project was beneficial and if it saved money.
* Have fun!

Projects we have done as part of our Frugal Club:

* Made and then exchanged seasoning/mixes (taco seasoning, chai tea, popcorn seasoning, oatmeal packets).
* Traded items we didn’t need or wanted to re-gift (see this post on a Stockpile Swap Party for more ideas).
* Made personal products (facials, shampoo, deodorant, cocoa lip balm).
* Made greeting cards from scrap paper and magazines.
* Had a holiday cookie exchange.
* Shared a CSA vegetable box together.
* Made window cleaner, laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent.
* Made dish scrubbers out of onion mesh bags.
* Went to garage sales together in the summer
* Discussed freezer meals/cooking in bulk/purchased meat in bulk and split it.
* Made homemade air fresheners.
* Discussed frugal baby things (cloth diapers, cloth wipes).
* Exchanged or lent books we already own.
* Made fire starters for camping.
* Rented an aerator and did multiple yards.
* Shared packets of seeds for our gardens.
* Hauled our own trash/recycling.
* Exchanged coupons.
* Picked strawberries.

Projects we plan to do in our Frugal Club:

* Try our hand at home haircuts and go to a cosmetology school for inexpensive hair cuts.
* Make candles and lotions.
* Wash each others’ windows.
* Help each other with time consuming yard work (trimming bushes)
* Plant herbs.
* Make “sandwich bags” out of cloth.
* Make soap when we visit a goat farm in May.
Jenny and her friends/current Frugal Club members: Jill, Beth, Carla, Kristy & Dana all live in Rochester, MN. In our group we have five nurses and one librarian. We enjoy learning from each other and of course talking! In the last year, three babies have joined the Frugal Club so our meetings are a little different than they used to be! :)

Healthy Dessert Recipes: Cocoa Meringue Cookies

You have got to head over to Healthy Dessert Recipes!
I found her after she friended my blog on a blog hop! AND WOW WOW WOW! can I say that enough?? I mean really you have probably read about my son having a dairy allergy. He is 6 months old and I nurse him and still supplement with hypoallergenic formula. But the boy likes to BF. So I am dairy free. It can be tough because I Love sweets. Chocolate, cream cheese, ice cream, pot lucks- most of those are out of my reach right now. As is most foods since they usually contain butter, cheese, milk products of some sort. Even going to fast food is tough. But I have been lucky to have some nice treats. These cookies already jumped at me when I saw her page. She even has a video tutorial at the bottom of this post on her page. Please check it out. I can't wait to see what else she has on there.

 Cocoa Meringue Cookies

The kids will love these. Don't these look so light and delicious? And they're easy so to make. The cocoa merringue cookie that will satisfy your sweet tooth completely:

Ingredients:
•3 large egg whites
•1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
•1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
•3/4 cup granulated white sugar
•2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Preparation:
1.Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Line 2 cookie sheets with foil. To start beat in egg whites with your cream of tartar on high speed until soft peaks form. Now slowly add your sugar and beat until peaks form. Blend in the vanilla extract and fold in the cocoa powder. Now drop dolops of the mixture all over your cookie sheet and bake for about 25-35 minutes or until meringues are firm and dry.

Then slide them onto wire racks to cool which will continue to firm them up. You can store them in an airtight container or plastic sealed bag to be served later if you'd like. Yum!

Thanks so much for leading me to your site ExJW33!

Saved from the yard sale

 I have been having a yard sale just about every weekend to clear out the extra clutter in my house. IF it has not been used we are not keeping it. I have my hands full picking up behind the 2 kiddos. So items like this cute candle holder that we received at our wedding almost 9 years ago didn't make the cut. As you can see it is really cute, but not something we could keep out for little hands to grab at. The crystal drops that hold the tealights are pretty heavy and would make quite a booboo on my little ones. Can't you just imagine that point falling on a foot or a head even YIKES. I figure we spend enough time at the doctor's office already. Besides I think we only used it as home decor in our townhouse when we were first married. When we built the new house it just didn't "go" anywhere so it was just set somewhere upstairs. So to the Yard sale pile it went.
Well during the yard sale I noticed something about this candle holder. It looked similar to something I had been searching for:
I had been wanting a metal dress form to hang my jewelry on in my bedroom.

So did you notice what I noticed? Once I took off the crystal drops, it looked like this:
Did you see it? similar shaping, looks perfect for holding jewelry. I didn't like the two tone silver and gold balls on it, so I added the hanging drops to the yard sale pile and got out the trusty Rustoleum Black Lacquer Spray Paint that I got on clearance from Hobby Lobby for 2.99. Thank goodness it lasts so long. So I sprayed it in the front yard while waiting.
and I took this photo to show it against the white.

And then I let it dry a bit more and air out so my room didn't smell like paint fumes but basically.....

TA-DA

Oh and I just found this other photo of it where the lighting is better:

So what do you think? Not a bad salvage for something that was headed to yard sale pile. and Totally Free to Me. That clearance spray paint has come in pretty handy. I ended up using it again on another project this weekend.

I am linking this project up to a few Link Parties:

Meet Me Monday!

I participate in several Blog Hops! I find them Loads of fun and great inspiration for decorating, crafts, and recipes! I have gained some great followers from Blog Hops as well. They are easy to do and if you have not tried to do any yet, you should!

A little about me, I am a working mom to 2 great kids, a 4yo daughter, and 6mo son. I love to sew, paint, and craft just about anything. If I see something I will usually decide I could make it myself cheaper. lol. Did I mention I am cheap! :-) I like nice things and will splurge at times, but I feel I can do that because I save in other ways! I am a farm girl. We have chickens, ducks, sheep and a goat. We collect eggs, have a huge garden and freeze and can the goods from there. We compost, use green cleaning methods, baby wear, and BF as much as possible. I love being a mom and would love to find a way to work from home or work PT, or heck Just stay home.

Tell me a bit about yourself!
