{Recovering Cornices}

Pin It

I like to remodel and recover things as well. I just don't do it very often. It really is simple. I am fortunate that before I decided I could do some building and woodworking projects on my own, my hubby and FIL would make it for me. It just usually wasn't on my schedule or as fast as I wanted it unless I had a deadline.

My husband made these cornices for me to use in our first nursery. Obviously it is very girly. The prints we chose had to at least go along with our master bedroom decor as the room was right off the master. You literally walked through the nursery to get to the master bedroom. That was our plan when we built this house and we knew we wanted to have our nursery very close by as new parents.

Well that only lasted the first child. So then we changed it to an office or mini man cave for my husband. It has a tv and recliner and his video game systems, book shelves, and holds our printer and some decor on the walls.Well our pink swirly cornices didn't match his manly room lol.

So here are photos of what I did.

Here is the before

And a close up of the design

1- used flat head screwdriver to pry staples off that held the fabric
 2- I left the batting on for some padding

So I had this fabric from my grandmother. It's a blue velvet fabric that worked out perfect for this project. And goes well with our barn brown walls. I just cut it in half to fit both cornices.
I laid it down under the cornice and folded it over to make sure it would cover everything.
Then you start folding it over, pulling it tight, and stapling it in place. And that's it.

So what do you think?

{Blade Buddy Review}

When I was contacted by the company to review this new product. I couldn't imagine how it could increase the life of a razor blade, but I was definitely interested since the blade refills are so darn expensive.Now let me be honest, I do not shave that often during the winter, I mean really, I am wearing long pants and shirts and I was pregnant when I got the product. My husband does shave a lot so between the two of us we should be able to do a pretty decent review.

Let me tell you one of my biggest issues is that when the blade goes dull, you end up cutting yourself more by having to put more pressure on the razor when shaving, and I am clumsy enough.

I received this product in Mid- December. I started seeing other bloggers post their reviews in Mid January and everyone was very happy, so in order to stand out I wanted to hold out until my blade buddy didn't seem to sharpen the blade anymore. Well we are mid March and I haven't seen that happen yet. I really seems to work amazingly well. My husband and I use the same one even.

So what is it? Check out this video:

And how do you use it? check out this video:

See all you have to do is add some shaving cream and take the razor and slide it from bottom of blade buddy to TOP, NOT from top to bottom, it will re-align the blades and restore the sharpness. See- its very simple and then you can use it. Repeat 15 to 20 times. We did this before each use since it only takes moments. Then rinse the blade after.

This product only costs 19.99 which really is just the cost of a refill pack of razors- so it is Totally worth it and recoups the cost for you immediately. Who else has had a razor last from December to March? and that is with 2 of us using it!

This is an awesome product for a couple reasons:
- It reduces waste since you don't use razors as quickly
- It reduces costs since you won't have to purchase blades as often

It can not restore old razors so just start with a new razor for a true view of how this works.

I was not paid for this review but did receive 2 samples. We used one to review, and I will be giving away 1 of them.

{Iced Coffee}

Pin It

Love this new coffee from International Delight. I am a big coffee drinker. I have a Mr Coffee machine that takes k-cups and it is super easy to use and yummy but to make iced coffee means adding ice to cool it or wait or plan ahead. This is just a nice lazy treat.

I like pouring it into my travel mug or insulated cup adding whipped cream and head out the door or relax after a night up feeding a newborn. I  like the original best since I can add my own Torani flavorings. I did try the vanilla which is yummy but am in love with the basic coffee flavor of the original. It gets 2 thumbs up from me.

{Homemade bread}

Pin It

I have made this bread recipe from The simple Dollar website, and it is good, just time consuming. As you are doing the kneading and rising on your own and by hand and tracking the time for each step.

Then I saw this bread recipe that uses a bread machine. I had a bread machine once and donated it because though I like the idea of the ease of a bread machine but I hate losing half my loaf because of the mixing blade.

So I then I found Crystal from Money Saving Mom's tip and recipe where she does the bead in a machine just using the dough cycle then moving it to loaf pan to rise and then bake. Also super easy. So here goes my bread machine recipe trial.

I had my recipe printed out and got all the ingredients out. You add all the ingredients in the specific order to the machine.
Then I selected 9 for the dough cycle and hit start. And waited. It was about an hour 20 minutes that it did its work.

I then pulled the dough out and formed it into a loaf with a smooth top (not hard just hard to describe) and put it in the loaf pan that I had greased with shortening, and let it rise 20-40 mins. and it looked like this when I put it in my oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

And this is the beautiful, light and fluffy bread that I had available. It has been such a hit already that I have made it 2 more times and will make more tomorrow.

I also tried the dinner roll recipe that works the same way with just as amazing results. Will share those pics next time I make it as they disappeared so quick ;-)
