: A way to embellish - tutorial

I Love the look of applique. I love being able to buy something basic, and cheap, and making it into something different, special, and personal. I like the step by step directions with pictures of how to easily do this.

Chick-Fil-A Milkshake

A new milkshake flavor has arrived at Chick-fil-A. What do you think about a Banana Pudding Milkshake? Has anyone tried it yet? My hubby is a huge fan of banana pudding. I might have to get him one to see what he thinks.

Get ready for the cold and allergy season

We are a family that suffers from Sinus issues during the spring and fall every year. My 3 month old is already suffering from the same issues as well, going through his first sinus infection and antibiotic round. Hubby and I are Big supporters of the Netipot/saline rinse. We actually use this brand. It is easy and simple, and clears up sinus issues before it becomes an infection. It does take a bit to get used to doing, but it is well worth it. It took me a long time to convince hubby to try this. He does not like the netipot, but loves the rinse bottle. He keeps it in the shower to do his rinses. As a welder, he has a lot of metal particle and dust in his sinuses. As a farmer, he has dust and dirt and debris, but in the year he has been using the saline rinse, he has Not had a Sinus infection!! He usually has several a year, resulting in burst eardrums as times. This is a really good deal if you are a Sam's Club member.

Well since I am apparently back full force now, and creating more of a routine at home, I figured it was time to share news of my sweet family.

Here is a recent picture of sweet Spencer, and her little brother Walker. He is 3 months old now and rolling over, cooing and smiling at us. He thinks his sister is Hilarious, and has captured all of our hearts. Spencer is such a good big sister. She loves her brother and almost smothers him with kisses. I am beyond Blessed with Happy healthy beautiful children. As well as the love of my life.....Shea!

Walker is enjoying his bumbo seat and loves cooing and talking to us. I Love those blue eyes. Hoping they stay that way like mine since Spencer got her daddy's pretty green eyes. GO Heels!

They keep me busy, but keep me inspired to do right by them, save money, save time, and to continue to create!

YAY!!! DIY Infant/Toddler Legwarmers

I Love Babylegs, and any brand legwarmers for my kids/babies. I do not like the prices and pattern choices sometimes. I came across this tutorial today, and knew I HAD to share it for those friends of mine that are crafty and also love babylegs. SO easy! Enjoy! I have a sock drawer full I may be playing with soon!

Cheap Cake Stand

Ok I saw this on this blog, but my mother in law saw it done at a craft fair in November and made several of these. There is a great tutorial with supplies linked below. Think outside the box where else you could find items- thrift stores, Christian Ministries, Goodwill, your own pantry and supplies. I have just thought of a small set of beautiful wedding China that was a great Aunt's that I have displayed in a cabinet. We don't use them because they are so special and there is not a full set for us to use. I may make a cake stand with one of the dinner plates to use now. My mother in law made Christmas themed ones. She used a teacup for the base for some, and some she used a soup bowl or another bowl, some she stacked more together. She and I had fun setting them up for creative different ways to put them together. Finding candlesticks is a nice way to do it as well. Hope you enjoy this craft! May make a nice Mothers day gift.

Charities losing funding.....

I am a big supporter of local Habitat for Humanity Restores. It is one of the places I get a lot of craft goodies, furniture, fabrics, etc. I just received one of the local stores newsletters and read this snippit in it. I was unaware, maybe because of the new baby and not paying attention to the news, or maybe just generally missed it, or maybe it was not openly talked about in the news. I wanted to make sure others were aware of this change of funding. I understand we need to cut budgets somewhere, and maybe this is one of the places to do it, but we also may need to be aware of the need for extra volunteers that charities are going to need in the next several months. Please keep your hearts and minds and calendars open to help support activities such as this. And lets be aware if they have to raise their prices, this may be why....lets be considerate and not moan and groan about it.

Speak Out to Save Service
AmeriCorps, VISTA programs threatened by budget cuts

AmeriCorps logo

When HR 1 passed in the House of Representatives on February 19th, it included the elimination of funding for the Corporation for National and Community Service. That's the group through which Habitat Charlotte, Hands On Charlotte, Teach for America and other service organizations receive funding for AmeriCorps and VISTA volunteers.

If the bill passes the Senate, the impact on Habitat Charlotte and our community at large would be profound. Families in need would suffer. And fewer service-minded leaders would be developed for the future.

Bert Green, Habitat Charlotte's executive director, figures AmeriCorps and VISTA members have saved the ministry approximately $1.5 million since 1997. Further, he estimates that 25 fewer families would have been served without their help.

If you're a registered voter and believe as strongly about preserving these service organizations as we do, let your elected officials hear from you. For Charlotte area residents, they are:

Senator Richard Burr (R) 202-224-3154

Senator Kay Hagan (D) 202-224-6342

Representative Larry Kissell (D) 202-225-3715

Representative Sue Myrick (R) 202-225-1976

Representative Mel Watt (D) 202-225-1510
